Canadian Contemporary Art - River Lewis Paintings

" Relating to a traditional art perspective of canadian artists who bond with the domestic landscape in all it's variations, my themes are also frequently with narrative intent. I have used landscape metaphor to paint the feelings I collect rather than external imagery in a search to access the feeling of Belonging. While the characters occassionally reveal themselves visually, I feel many times that they are close to the edges of my paintings as if they might walk in at any moment.

Using the feeling of 'self within surroundings' to address the internal-external paradox, my art practice continues to explore how Belonging migrates with self-reinvention, persistently manifesting as a bridge between the intellectual-emotional self and the physical world.
